A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away; on one of the moons of the planet Ryloth, there was a small colony. This colony was nearly undetectable by radar because it served a special purpose and consisted of a few small domed buildings, one as a barracks another as a training ground and one as a spaceport for those entering and exiting the colony. This colony served as a secret training facility for the Galactic Empire and it was especially secretive because it only housed one person. The training facility was about the size of an average marketplace, providing ample room for both ranged and melee combat. Completely dark on the inside, the door opened and you stepped inside. You were wearing a black hooded robe, the sound of the cloth moving echoing through the chamber along with your footsteps. Looking around into the darkness, your target was nowhere to be seen until you were about halfway into the room. Sensing something, you quickly pulled out your lightsaber and held it to your right.

“Found you.” You said as the lights came on to see your lightsaber held before another hooded figure’s neck

“Well done, my apprentice.” The figure said as he pulled his hood down to reveal his Zabrak face, red as the lightsaber in front of him with black marking and six horns on top of his head

You in turn lowered your hood to meet your Mentor. Your (h/c) hair was cut short and your (e/c) eyes shone brightly even in the well lit room. “Thank you Mentor.”

“I knew there was something special about you from the moment I saw you in the Academy on Mandalore. I told my master that your talents would have been squandered and with that one chance he gave us you’ve grown to be my most powerful student.”

“I try to live up to your expectations every day.”

“You do more than meet my expectations, my boy, you exceed them. You are a better shot than any soldier in the Empire and you’ve mastered every technique I’ve taught you. Not to mention your considerable growth in the ways of the Force.”

Suddenly, three bladed disks shot out of the wall, firing blaster shots in every direction. Blocking the shots with your saber, your hand crackled with electricity as you shot lightning at the disks and turning them to ashes. You sheathed your saber as you turned back to your master to see him chuckling.

“This is exactly what I mean (y/n); you have the sharpest reflexes and keenest senses I’ve ever seen, and to have mastered Force Lightning, one of the most advanced techniques of our Order at only 18 astounds me to this day. You have proven yourself more than worthy to join us in our noble quest for intergalactic peace.”

Your mentor turned to the door as it slid opened. Stepping through the door was a tall man, his power clearly emanating from his body as the sound of his heavy breathing filled the room. You had never seen this man before yet you clearly knew who he was and followed your mentor in taking a knee in the presence of the Sith Lord.

“You honor us with your presence, Lord Vader.” Your mentor said, slowly standing to greet Darth Vader as you followed shortly

Lord Vader said nothing at first, slowly walking around you. You could feel him judging you as he fully circled around and returned to his original position.

“I must admit, my master and I had our doubts concerning you young one.” He finally said, “But now, having seen your abilities firsthand, I can agree with the Mentor’s sentiments. The Force is strong in you and you wield its power with the deadliest of subtlety; it is exactly this kind of discretion that is needed for your mission.”

“I am ready and willing to serve, Lord Vader.” You responded with a bow

“Excellent, but before you learn of your mission you must be properly equipped.” Vader said as a droid hovered inside and dispensed a blaster pistol

“A blaster, milord?”

“As Lord Vader said, this mission requires discretion. This pistol will serve as a holster for your lightsaber and in turn your lightsaber will serve as its barrel, and will remove the need for ammunition.” Your Mentor explained as a set of targets rose from the floor

You took the gun and sure enough, your lightsaber fits perfectly in the space where the barrel would normally be, completely camouflaged within the weapon. Turning to the targets, you took aim and fired a quick burst of shots each one landing dead-center before the targets sunk back down.

“Well done,” Lord Vader said, “I would have expected no less.”

“So what would you have me do Lord Vader?” You asked

“We have received intelligence of a rebel cell growing on the planet Lothal. They are small but very resilient, yet their small number is also their weakness. You shall pose as one who shares their views and ask to join them and we shall track your movements with the group. No other action need be taken after this; you shall be watched from afar and will be signaled for extraction when the time is right.”

Looking at your new blaster and then over to your mentor, who gives you a nod of approval. Removing your robe, your black armor reflected the light from the room as pulled your red face mask over your mouth and nose and holstered your pistol.

“When do we leave?”

Traversing the rooftops of Lothal a few days later, you had surveyed the town and had even done a little reconnaissance concerning these rebels. Sadly, no one knew too much or weren’t willing to share. Still, the townsfolk went about their business until night came and the city fell silent. Reaching the town square, the com-link hidden in your arm guard began to signal you, pressing the receiver you connected to Lord Vader.

“It appears our rebel cell will be making their move tonight Shadowsight. We have intelligence that a single rebel will infiltrate the TIE Fighter depot. A squad of elite troopers will give chase and lead them into the alleyway north of the town square.”

You turned to the right and saw the alley that Lord Vader mentioned. “You wish for me to aid in their escape from the troopers?”

“Correct. Stick to the rooftops until the very last moment.”

“Understood Lord Vader. Shadowsight out.” You said as you ended the call and jumped up to a roof to scout out the rebel.

About 10 minutes later, a massive explosion rang through the silent town. Turning to the source, you saw someone in Mandalorian battle gear running through the alleys into the marketplace. Jumping to a roof near the northern alley, the elite troopers appeared on cue to surround them and force them into the trap. Watching the rebel reach the dead end as the troopers approached, you kind of felt bad for them since they’re probably thinking that this is it for them. Hearing the whine of the troopers’ blasters charging up, you knew now was your time to step in. Dropping into the alleyway, you tossed down a pair of smoke bombs and enveloped the troopers in thick black smoke. Turning back to the rebel, they nodded and you helped them up to the rooftop before jumping up yourself and giving the troopers the slip.

A few minutes later, you and the rebel were on the outskirts of the town to take a minute to catch your breath.

“Well that was fun, you alright?” You asked, getting a pair of blaster pistols aimed at your head

“Who are you, where did you come from and why did you help me?” They said, their voice giving away a female beneath the armor

“Easy, I’m a friend or at least I hope to be.” You said as you pulled your face mask down, “My name is…”

“(Y/N)?” She said as she put her blasters away and removed her helmet

She had tan skin and dark brown eyes and her hair was blue with orange highlights; it took you a while but you remembered those eyes from back at the academy.

“No way…Sabine?” You said as you two stood still for a second before giving each other a high five and laughing

“I can’t believe it! What are you doing here?” She asked

“I could ask you the same thing, Nebula.” You said using her old Academy call sign

“Oh geez, I haven’t been called that in a while. I can’t even remember your call sign.”

“Shadowsight.”

“Oh yeah, since you aced the marksman section of basic training. So seriously what are you doing here?”

“You weren’t the only one the Academy rubbed the wrong way.”

“That’s putting it mildly.” Sabine said, looking down

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bring it back up,” You said, remembering what happened with Sabine and her parents, “but like I said, I ditched the Academy and took to the bounty hunter life. More opportunities to be had.”

“Yeah, and more people out for your head.”

“True, but you know me; I love a challenge.” You said getting a giggle out of Sabine

“Hey I just had an idea, you saw what I did back at the TIE Depot?”

“You mean that huge explosion?”

“Yeah, I joined up with some guys who are trying to fight the Empire and we could always use more people, you think you’d be up for it?”

“Hmmm,” You said thinking for a moment before a smile curled onto your face, “okay, you sold me. If we get to do more of what you did tonight, then sign me up.”

Sabine led you out into one of the plains outside of town and after hiking a little more, the city went out of view and you came upon a freight ship.

“Base of operations?” You asked

“You could say so; The Ghost is our home sweet home. Let me go get everyone, might be better if you don’t just walk on board.”

“Good call. I’ll chill out here for a second then.”

Typing on the keypad, the loading dock lowered down and Sabine went inside. About ten minutes later, Sabine came back out and was followed by the other members of the group. One was a female Twi’lek in an orange and brown flight suit followed by an orange astromech droid; another was a Lasat, a species that you thought had gone extinct, wearing dark green armor. The other two were humans but there was something unique about them. The younger of the two had blue hair and wore an orange jumpsuit with a brown jacket, and the taller one had brown hair and a goatee with armor over his blaster arm and a small cylinder was latched onto his belt loop.

Seeing the cylinder and unconsciously rubbing your thumb over your blaster, you recognized a lightsaber and quickly suppressed your Force powers so as not to raise suspicion.

“Anyway guys, this is him. This is (y/n) my old friend from the Academy. (Y/N), this is Hera, Chopper, Zeb, Ezra and Kanan.”

Hera, Ezra, and Zeb greeted you kindly enough, while Chopper didn’t seem to be too enthused about meeting you. Kanan, on the other hand, stepped forward and seemed to look you over more intently than the others.

“Something wrong, love?” Hera asked

“No; you’ll have to forgive me (y/n) if I seem a little skeptical.”

“No, no, it’s warranted. Nothing wrong with a healthy dose of caution. But like Sabine’s hopefully shared with you I have no ties to the Empire and want to help liberate the galaxy.”

“That may be true,” Zeb said, “but actions speak louder than words kid.”

“I agree, so let me prove it to you that I’m serious about joining up with you guys. Any sort of Imperial activity hit your radar lately?”

“Well, there is one thing.” Ezra said, “It’s a pretty minor case, so maybe we can use this as a way to test (y/n).”

“That just might work,” Kanan said, “A town a few clicks south of here is being subjected to severe food rationing to the point where all food is distributed through the Empire’s base. But we know that there’s plenty of food in the town; what’s really going on is that the Empire is starving them to set an example.”

You couldn’t believe that the Empire would use that kind of tactic, but it gave you an idea on how to prove your worth to Sabine’s team.

“I’ll take the job, and I won’t even need to use my blaster.”

“You’re pretty sure of yourself.” Sabine said

“Hey, you may have finished the language unit first back in training, but I finished the intrigue unit before anyone else was halfway done with it.”

“Alright (y/n), then I’m coming with you. Help Kanan confirm that you can do what you do.”

“So what’s in it for us if you can’t?” Zeb asked

“Zeb!” Hera shouted

“What?”

Chuckling, you pulled out a bag full of credits the size of Zeb’s fist. “The payment from my last contract. If I pull out my blaster, it’s all yours.”

“We can discuss this in the morning, for now, you can crash with Sabine until morning and then you get to work.”

“Understood Kanan. Shall we Sabine?” You said to Sabine

Sabine giggled as she and the rest of the crew stepped into the Ghost and headed to their bunks for the night. You and Sabine turned a corner after splitting off with the main group and went into Sabine’s room. Instantly, the colors splattered over the walls hit you as you saw the standard bunkroom layout.

“Good to see some things haven’t changed, still as creative as ever Nebula.” You said, causing Sabine to giggle some more before the two of you climbed into your bunks for the night.

“Hey (y/n)?”

“Yeah?”

“It’s really good to see you again. I kind of missed hanging out with you when we weren’t training.”

“Yeah, I’ve got to admit I missed it too.” You said as you sat in the darkness for a few moments with your thoughts while Sabine fell asleep

You had finally made it into the rebel cell that Lord Vader was talking about. They seemed like a bunch of nice folks but they were enemies of the Empire, and you had grown up learning how to deal with these rebels. You were well-versed in playing a role and this act was no different, but Sabine was something you didn’t anticipate. You had a clean slate with everyone else on this ship but Sabine; you two had a history. Sure it was real innocent but the point was that you and Sabine had spent a part of your lives together and she knew things about you that the others didn’t. Obviously, you’ve changed but you couldn’t stop thinking about how Sabine would react when it was time for you to be extracted, and then you wondered what would happen if Sabine ever caught you using your powers.

A feeling overwhelmed you, a kind of feeling that you weren’t too familiar with.

You were…afraid.

You were afraid of what Sabine would think if she found out you were not only a soldier for the Empire but a Sith. Kanan has a lightsaber so she has to know about Jedi and Sith. You shook your head to try and stop thinking about it, and besides you’re only here to gather information. If everything goes as planned, you’ll collect what Lord Vader wants to know and be silently extracted in the dead of night. You agreed to leave a note for Sabine saying an old contact reached out with a big job near Ryloth as your goodbye, and with that, you slowly but surely drifted off to sleep.

The next morning you and Sabine started traveling to the town in question, making it there by about midday. Looking around, you saw the Imperial presence was very strong and not in the supportive way your Mentor had told you. People looked at the troopers with fear in their eyes, children often hid behind their parents as they passed by.

“What is this? The Empire calls this ‘protection’?” You said

“I take it a few of your contracts were from the Empire, so you didn’t have to see this?” Sabine asked

“I’ll admit that a few were, mostly political targets. But the challenge was there and the coin was good. Life of a bounty hunter, you know?”

“You sound like Kaleesh.”

“Okay, I am not Kaleesh.” You responded sharply, hoping Sabine had forgotten your old Academy rival

“Okay, okay, you’re not Kaleesh. Let’s see now, the Empire’s base should be somewhere around here.”

Looking around, you and Sabine seemed a bit lost in the town. Pulling down your face mask you spotted a small merchant stand run by a family of Rodians, husband and wife with two kids.

“Excuse me,” you said calmly stepping up, “would you happen to know where the Imperial base is?”

The children ducked behind the stand as their father slowly approached you.

“Why are you asking us this? Who are you?” He said

“I am an Imperial courier, sent to relay orders to the base commander. I mean you no harm, I’m simply a little lost.”

“Are you going to get our food back?” One of the children said, a quick glance showed you that they haven’t eaten well for a few days now

“Like I said, I’m only the messenger. But I do have some news that should help you and your family.”

The father looked to his kids and then to you as you smiled a sincere smile. He then pointed down the road leading south into the center of town. You took a moment to look over the stand, various balls of glass lined the stand each with a different nebula contained within. You recognized the Kaliida Nebula in one of the orbs and picked it up. Digging into your pouch, you pulled a few gold credits out and gave them to the father.

“Thank you for your time.” You said

The father happily accepted the payment and you turned back to Sabine, holding up the ball for a second before putting it in your pack.

“Okay, you are definitely not Kaleesh.” Sabine said as the two of you headed for the Imperial base

Soon, the Imperial base stood before you in all of its fortress-like glory.

“You go on ahead; I probably shouldn’t get too close. They might recognize my helmet.” Sabine said

“Yeah, I could imagine your little stunt at the depot didn’t sit well with them.”

Turning slightly away from you, Sabine ducked behind an empty market stand as you approached the lone guard.

“Move along citizen, this is a restricted area.”

“At ease soldier, I carry orders from Command. I need to speak with the officer in charge.”

“I’m going to need to see some identification first.”

Your face turned stern as you looked back at the trooper.

“It appears that you don’t understand your situation trooper, seeds of rebellion have shown themselves not three clicks north of this town. Action must be taken to suppress these rebels now before they spread here. These orders are directly from Command, directly from the Emperor himself. Waste my time and you waste the Emperor’s time, and trust me when I say you do not want to waste the Emperor’s time. Now, please alert the officer in charge of my presence here and tell him that I need to speak with him.”

“Y-yes sir, I’ll tell the commander now. Please wait here a for a moment.” The trooper said as he dashed inside

Taking the opportunity, you turned back to see Sabine sitting nearby and gave her a thumbs-up. She gave you one in return just as the trooper from before came out of the base with a partner and the base’s commander.

“You are the messenger that the Emperor sent with vital orders for us? I was not expecting you to look so…green.” The commander said

“Looks can be deceiving but rest assured, I was hand-picked by the Emperor for this assignment.”

“I understand; however standard protocol must be observed. So I’m going to need to see some identification first.”

You had anticipated this obstacle might present itself, so you started to use your Force Powers to manipulate the three of them with your Mind Tricks.

“You don’t need to see my identification.” You said as they began to fall under your trance

“I don’t need to see your identification?” The commander asked

“My armor is standard-issue for the Emperor’s elite guard. This is identification enough.”

“Yes, yes, of course. You’re wearing the armor of the Emperor’s elite guard. How foolish of me not to recognize it immediately.” The commander said with a bow, “My sincerest apologies, now what does the Emperor request of us?”

“This rationing business is taking too much time and resources from our movement in this area. All food is to be returned effective immediately, alert your troops of this and know that no other order is to override this.”

“Of course, having to set up guards for food caches and make sure it’s properly preserved. An utter waste of valuable Imperial energy. My soldiers will bring the food stores around for you to distribute back to the townsfolk. Thank you for alerting us to this change my friend.”

A few minutes later, the troopers had loaded all of the food onto a pair of carts and left you in front of the base with them as they headed back inside while Sabine ran up to you.

“That was incredible! You got back the food and you never even touched your blaster, how did you do that?”

“Intimidate the underlings and the commander believes you’re on his level, so he’ll work with you no problem. Come on, let’s give this back to the townsfolk.”

Pulling the carts into the town square, people began to gather as you unloaded the food onto the previously empty market shelves. Once everything was said and done, you and Sabine were receiving so many thanks and praise for doing this.

“Sir!” You heard to your right, you turned to see a lone trooper pushing a cart full of cabbages into the marketplace. “Sorry to bother you sir, but we had one more item from the stores.”

Almost instantly, an older human male wearing green robes rushed to the cart with utter joy.

“MY CABBAGES!” The old man exclaimed as he began to dance around celebrating

Chuckling, you and Sabine left the townspeople to their business as you returned to the Ghost with news of your success.

A few weeks later you were resting in your bunk one night, or at least trying to. Your mind was being tugged in unimaginable ways. You saw yourself standing with Sabine fighting against the Empire, and at the same time you were with your Mentor fighting Sabine and her friends. Unable to get any rest, you got up from your bunk and went to leave only to meet Sabine at the door.

“Sabine, hey.” You said, still uneasy about your dream

“Hey (y/n), you all right?” She said taking a look at your (e/c) eyes, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”

“Yeah, yeah I’m cool. Couldn’t sleep so I think I’m going to go for a quick walk around town.”

“Okay, see you when you get back.” She said with her signature smile as you left

Losing yourself in the crowd of the market helped you clear your head and focus your thoughts. You had been trained to fight rebels like Kanan and Sabine, but now that you had lived and worked with these guys for a while your view had changed on them and on the Empire that you had called your home. A part of you wondered if you could give the Empire the slip and join up with Sabine permanently, but another part of you stomped that thought out instantly. One does not simply leave the Empire, especially if you’re a Sith. You then noticed how your thoughts revolved around Sabine; not Ezra, not Kanan, just Sabine. Maybe it was the fact that Sabine knew you from the Academy and she knew what you were before. You got the idea that maybe you should at least let Sabine know what you’ve really been doing, and make it sound like the one training you died so you’re still on your own. However, when you looked back up from the ground you found yourself up against a brick wall at the end of an alley and you had noticed that everything had gone quiet.

Turning around you saw the way out was blocked by two tall human males and between them stood a Mirialan male about your age. He had olive skin like many of their race and his brown hair was cut short almost to the point of a buzz cut. Beneath his eyes were the traditional Mirialan tattoos in the shape of pyramids, and altogether it composed a face that you recognized but had hoped to forget.

“Kaleesh.”

“(Y/N), what are the odds? You look well.” He said with his typical cynical tone

“Life of a bounty hunter has its perks. Looks like you’ve got a little crew yourself.”

“Life of a smuggler has its perks.” He said, “But right now, I’d call them insurance.”

“Insurance?” You asked as he pulled out a blaster pistol

“To make sure nothing spoils this. I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time now.” Kaleesh said with a sinister look

His two goons were faster than you had thought because almost instantly they had you by the arms and pushed you on your knees as Kaleesh approached slowly, savoring the moment. Now Kaleesh was making you mad, he had always been jealous of your skills and how Sabine had gotten close to you back at the Academy. What he hadn’t counted on was what you’ve been doing since you “left” the Academy, and you started to tap into your Force Powers to prepare to put Kaleesh back in his place.

“You don’t want to do this Kaleesh, just let me go and walk away.”

“What are you going to do?” He said as he took aim

As Kaleesh pulled the trigger, you sent out a Force Wave knocking the two thugs away and into the walls of the alley. Lifting your lightsaber out of your blaster, you reflected Kaleesh’s shot at the last second and knocking the gun out of his hand. Kaleesh stood there for a few seconds in shock at what just happened.

“Okay,” you said as you took a step toward Kaleesh, “so maybe I haven’t been working as a bounty hunter. Let’s just say it was extracurricular learning.”

Kaleesh turned around and started to run away but before he could you reached out your free hand and made a gripping gesture. Kaleesh stopped in his tracks and slowly rose off the ground, his hands at his throat as you drew him in with your Force Choke.

“I would’ve let you walk away if you had let me go Kaleesh, but now you’ve seen just a little too much.”

You motioned towards the back alley and Kaleesh flew in that direction until crashing into the wall. His muscle got up and tried to charge you but you simply Force Pushed them back to Kaleesh.

“I promise this will only hurt for a few hours, and at the end of it all you won’t remember a thing.”

Your hands crackled with electricity and you shot out Force Lightning at Kaleesh and his thugs.

A few minutes later, you had dealt with Kaleesh and took a moment to collect yourself. Hiding your lightsaber in your blaster once more, you turned around and immediately froze in place. Standing at the entrance to the alleyway was Sabine, her eyes wide in a combination of shock and fear. How long she was standing there you don’t know, but she definitely saw some portion of what you just did. That same feeling from a few weeks ago now hit you like a ton of bricks. Sabine just found out the truth in the one way you didn’t want her to. You took a small step forward and she darted off toward The Ghost.

“Sabine wait!” You called out but she kept on running so you chased after her in hopes of talking to her

Taking to the roofs for a better view you saw Sabine ahead of you, and your agility training helped you keep up and close a bit of the distance between you. She made it out to the plains once you reached the outskirts of the city, but with a strong Force Jump you glided through the night air and landed in front of Sabine causing her to stop.

“Sabine just give me a second to explain.” You said

“I have nothing to say to you (y/n).” She said looking down at the ground

“This obviously looks bad, but you know me. I’m not so ruthless that I’d kill on a whim. Kaleesh and his thugs should wake up in the morning with a few sore muscles and no recollection of what happened.”

“I don’t care about Kaleesh.” Sabine said as she looked up at you, and you were shocked to see tears in her eyes, “I trusted you, I believed in you and it turns out you lied to me! I may not understand everything Kanan talks about but I know a Sith when I see one. How could you lie to me like that? Was it just that easy for you?”

“Don’t think for a second that it was easy to lie to you about this. I was about to go find you and explain everything when Kaleesh showed up. Of course, I don’t know when I’m done with this so I was planning to just slip away in the middle of the night and leave you a note.”

“Oh please, a note? The least you could do is look me in the eyes when you rip out my heart!”

You stopped for a second when Sabine said this, and when you came back you heard the whine of various blasters charging. Slowly looking behind you, you saw the other members of the group with weapons aimed.

“You alright Sabine?” Hera asked

“I feel a little dead on the inside.” She said as the tears kept coming

“Will you let me explain myself for one second?!” You shouted as Zeb fired a warning shot

“Next one’s aimed at your lying head, traitor. Actions speak louder than words right? Well we all saw what you did, so good luck talking your way out of that.”

Chopper rolled over the hill and told Kanan that he had finished searching for any surveillance equipment or hidden traps which he relayed to the others.

“I wasn’t sent to kill anybody, just to gather information I promise.”

“That may be true, but I was right to be suspicious of you (y/n). Now here’s how this is going to work. Hands behind your head and on your knees, now.”

Given your position, you had no choice but to follow Kanan’s directions. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw him motion for Sabine to come over to them. She slowly moved past you and stopped for a minute.

“You were the only one I told that I was leaving the Academy when my parents died. Do you remember that?”

“I do.”

“I told you because you were special to me (y/n), you were the only thing I had that was close to family back then. But it’s obvious that we’ve gone in different directions. I have a new family now, and you’re clearly not the same boy that I loved. Goodbye (y/n).”

The word “loved” echoed in your head as you were isolated in the field. The roar of the Ghost’s engines brought you back to earth with the realization of what you just did.

“Wait, Sabine wait!” You called but the Ghost was too high in the air to hear you, but on the loading ramp, you could see Sabine standing alone watching you before turning away from you and going inside. “Sabine, please wait!” You continued shouting as tears began to fall from your eyes while the Ghost sailed off into the night. “I love you too.” You said in the most defeated tone as you fell to your knees once more.

The night grew silent as the wind slowly wafted through your (h/c) hair while the past few hours caught up to you. In such a short amount of time you had compromised your position, you had been found out and shunned by the group you had been sent to survey and, to you the worst part, was that you had betrayed the trust of someone that you cared about deeply. Suddenly, the sound of your com-link rang and you collected yourself before answering.

“This is Shadowsight.” You said

“(Y/N), are you alone?” Your Mentor said on the other line

“Yes Mentor, though I’m not sure that that’s a good thing or not.”

“What do you mean?”

“Not ten minutes ago the rebel cell found me out and left.”

“Don’t worry (y/n), this is actually well-timed as we’re ready for your extraction. A ship is waiting to take you to our base on Garel, head for these coordinates and we’ll see you in a few days’ time.”

The Mentor ended the call and your wrist navigator marked a location to the east of your location, and so you began to head in that direction.

Reaching the secret base on Garel, you followed the winding hallways until you came upon a room similar to your barracks back on Ryloth’s moon. Sitting down on the bunk, you were left alone with your thoughts for a few moments before the door opened again and Darth Vader stepped inside.

“Your mentor has informed me of the results of your mission.”

“I wouldn’t call it results since my cover got blown.” You said with a disgruntled voice

“That is unfortunate, but we are pleased that you were able to acquire the information that I have analyzed.” Vader said as he walked up to a strategy projection center nearby, “My master is ready to hear of my report and he would like to speak with you as well.”

Getting up and joining Darth Vader, the Sith Lord fell to one knee and you quickly followed suit knowing that Darth Vader only bows to one person. Soon, you saw the blue glow of the projection come online but you knew better than to look up to see.

“Master, I have arrived on Garel as you ordered. (y/n) is with me and we await your orders.”

There was a silence for a second before you heard, “Rise child, let me see you.” in a wheezy voice.

Standing up, you faced the hologram image of the Emperor himself. Even through the hologram, he exuded power, more so than even Darth Vader. His hood was over his eyes, so you couldn’t fully see his face but what you could see showed the Emperor’s age and experience. The silence continued for another minute before the Sith Lord’s face curled into a smile.

“Yes, yes I sense much potential in you boy. Courage to do what needs to be done without fear of the consequences, and power to achieve your goals; and hate, yes there is much hate within your heart. What say you, Vader?”

“The boy indeed shows promise and I believe he can be of great use to us.”

“Indeed, in fact, I believe that you are more than ready to join our glorious order in full. But more on that later; Vader, what have you learned about this particularly bothersome group of ragtag rebels?”

“The Twi’Lek and Lasat are no real threat and the younger boy has shown no evident skill; and yet I sense something deep within him. I recommend continued observation of this one.”

“Noted; what of the others?”

“I believe that the older male is a Jedi, however his training appears to be incomplete.”

“His master must’ve been executed during Order 66.” The emperor added

“The final member is a young girl from Mandalore. She was born into Clan Wren of House Viszla of Mandalore and possesses extensive knowledge of weapons and rudimentary Imperial tactics. Further analysis revealed that she was a cadet at the Mandalorian Imperial Academy and that (y/n) was a member of her class.”

The emperor turned back to you. “Is this true boy?” He asked

“Yes sir, I know her.”

“Excellent,” the Emperor said, “then that shall be your final test. Vader, present him with the dagger.”

Darth Vader stood up and turned to you, reaching under his cloak he pulled out what appeared to be the handle of a knife and gave it to you. When you took the handle from him, an edge of dark energy came forth as you looked back at the Emperor.

“This dagger is made of a fragment of the Mandalorian Darksaber, a weapon that House Viszla knows very well. We’ve re-engineered it to only become active in the presence of the most extreme hate.”

One thing was true, you were feeling hate right now. You hated Kaleesh for getting in the way, but more than that you hated yourself for not telling Sabine what was really going on. So much was left unsaid and now you were probably never going to get a chance to rebuild that bridge.

“We have reason to believe that in the coming few days these rebels will be raiding a medical supplies store on Lothal, and your mentor will be engaging them. You shall be joining him but you will not be with him at first. From what I gather, this girl is not only the most dangerous member of this group but she also is a tie to your past. To fully join the Sith Order, you must sever all ties with your past life.”

Your eyes widened as the Emperor continued. “You shall approach from the same direction that the Rebels entered. When the opportune moment rises, you shall complete your initiation and sever the final tie to your past when you kill the Mandalorian girl.”

Your entire body froze when the Emperor said this. Kill Sabine? A thousand thoughts ran threw your head. You wondered if your feelings about her were known as you snapped back to reality to hear the Emperor’s closing remarks.

“When these fools walk into our trap, the galaxy will be shown that no rebellion can loosen our grip and we shall come out stronger with you as a new commander. Vader, return to Coruscant for your next orders. That is all.”

The hologram dissipated and you couldn’t feel any part of your body as Darth Vader turned to face the door and left the room. You could hear him walking through the hallway outside and his footsteps began to fade as he turned a corner. Hearing the hiss of a door open and close, you could no longer hear Darth Vader in the building. Now back in solitude, the feeling in your body slowly returned. Your breathing got shaky and your shoulders were shaking just as much, slowly sheathing the dagger you could feel your throat well up as you fell to your knees. You were trying to hold in what was coming but it was a losing battle as tears began to fall from your eyes, finally slamming your fists on the ground you screamed in anguish.

You loved Sabine, and now you were being ordered to end her life. She and the others don’t trust you now that the truth is out and there was no going back to them. On top of that, if you don’t kill her, you insult your Mentor and the other Dark Lords and that would mean your death and she’d probably still die. You cried for what felt like hours, even after the timed lights in the bunker turned off as night fell. After what felt like an out of body experience, you found yourself lying on the cold metal floor looking out the small rectangular window at the stars wondering what Sabine was doing. Looking over near your bunk, you saw your pack on the ground and the glass orb you bought in that town within arm’s reach. Slowly reaching for it, you grabbed the ball and sat up to look at it. You noticed how it was warm in your touch and that oranges and yellows of the Kaliida Nebula reminded you of Sabine. You thought you saw Sabine’s smiling face in the shapes made by the swirling gasses.

Suddenly, you saw a blue glow in the reflection of the orb. Turning around, you saw a ball of blue light behind you which changed to take the form of a small humanoid life-form. He was very old, how old you weren’t sure; but his eyes showed great wisdom and care as she smiled a small smile and slowly walked up and sat down in front of you.

“Who…” You asked before the old man stopped you

“Important, my name is not. But a friend, know that I am.” He said with a peculiar voice

“What, what are you doing here?”

“The Force speaks to me, tell me of you it did. Know of your troubles, I do.”

“What am I supposed to do? I can’t kill Sabine; I love her! But if I don’t kill her, then I face the consequences of disobeying a direct order and she could still die. What have I become?”

“Hmmm, remind me of my old apprentice you do. Strong with the Force he was and fell to the Dark Side he did.”

“How am I like him?”

“Surrounded by darkness you may be, but a light in your heart I sense. See only two simple choices when more exist, you do.”

“I guess you’re right, war is full of choices and there isn’t always a good and bad choice.”

“Hmmm, much like love, never easy but always rewarding.”

“So what should I do?”

“Answer that question, only you can. Take time to build, trust and love do. To save those you love, drastic measures may be needed.”

With that, the elder one dissolved into light as you stood up and held the glass ball close to your heart and went to rest on your bunk for the night.

A week later, you returned to Lothal and went to the capital city where the medical supplies were being held. The troopers moved to let you in and you were welcomed by your mentor.

“Good to see you again (y/n). Lord Vader has informed me of the test the Emperor has presented to you.”

Your mentor led you into a wide room with large metal crates lining the perimeter.

“Is this where we’re supposed to ambush them?” You asked and your Mentor nodded

“Yes, this room will serve as their final resting place, one way or another.”

“What?” You said as your Mentor looked to you

“The Emperor has given me strict instructions concerning your test. You do have a choice: if you kill the girl, then you will join us a full-fledged Sith. However, if you wish you don’t have to kill her and I will do it myself. But by the end of tonight, you and I will be the only ones left standing.”

A chill ran down your spine, knowing that even if you don’t kill her Sabine could still die.

“No, no I’ll do it. I’m ready and, while it may not seem like much, I’d prefer if I was the one who did the deed. War is rough on the body and mind, and sometimes we need something to hold on to.”

“An odd reason, but you are right. There is no real time to grieve in war. How shall you approach?”

Looking around, you noticed a large vent opening near the doorway. “They’ll be coming in this through this doorway?” You asked and your Mentor nodded, “Then I’ll hide in this vent and approach from behind.”

“Smart plan.” The Mentor said as an alarm blared through the room, “It appears our guests have arrived. You know what to do.”

Nodding, you opened the vent and crouched inside before replacing the cover. Through the small openings in the cover, you heard blaster fire and soon Sabine and the others ran inside before meeting your Mentor. Some words were exchanged before he and Kanan began to duel while troopers came in from the other door and engaged the others in a firefight. Making sure that everyone was sufficiently distracted, you slowly left the vent and approached Sabine. Pulling out the Darksaber dagger, its black blade glowed as you approached Sabine from behind. Images flashed through your mind: going on missions with Sabine, when you first reunited with her and the thoughts went even further back to your time with her at the Academy, and all the while she was smiling. Tears began to run down your cheeks as you raised the dagger to bring it down. Suddenly, the blade cracked and the weapon fell apart in your hands.

On reflex, Sabine turned around and kicked you in the gut sending you crashing into a crate.

“(Y/N)?” Sabine said before blaster fire regained her attention as she dealt with the last of the troopers, leaving your Mentor alone against them all

“How disappointing,” your Mentor said as he pushed Kanan away and into Ezra, “I had hoped that (y/n) would be ready to join us but it seems like he needs more training.”

Zeb changed his weapon into its staff form and charged at your Mentor, but with a wave of his hand, Zeb went flying into Hera. Sabine turned around and fired off more blaster shots, but your Mentor reflected them with ease and used the last two to knock the guns out of Sabine’s hands.

“No matter, I’m ready to perform where my student could not.” He said as his free hand began to crackle with electricity

Your eyes widened as you saw what was coming, and in your head, you heard the parting words of the elder one.

“To save those you love; drastic measures may be needed.”

“You are the one thing holding my pupil back girl, and with your death, I shall ready my student for what’s to come.”

Time slowed down as your mentor shot his Force Lightning at Sabine. Raising her arms in a futile attempt to defend herself, she instead heard a scream of pain. Looking up she saw you in front of her, using your body as a shield to protect her.

“(Y/N)?!”

“What is the meaning of this (y/n)?” Your mentor asked

“I’m…not letting you…hurt her!” You grunted through the shocks

“If you think you’re ready, then just redirect my attack and kill her!”

“No one’s dying today! I refuse!”

“You’d defy a direct order from the Emperor? After everything I’ve done to teach you? I created you (y/n) and I will not hesitate to destroy you.”

“You didn’t create me, you molded me into what you hoped was an efficient killing machine. But I have a heart and a mind of my own, and I will not idly watch the people I love die by your hand.”

“Insolent child!”

“I may be a child,” you said as you regained control of your body and absorbed your Mentor’s lightning, collecting it in your hands, “but you’re the one who has to tell Lord Vader how you lost your ‘finest student’.”

Combining the two balls of electricity into one, you shot a giant bolt of lightning at your Mentor, who was not ready for a counterattack of that magnitude. The sheer voltage of the bolt caused a power shortage throughout the entire warehouse, and your former Mentor crashed through the metal door as you collapsed from having that much electricity course through your body for that long.

Your body was so weak that it was a struggle to even keep your eyes open as you heard everyone coming to. You then felt your body get turned over and you saw Sabine taking off her helmet and supporting your head and upper body.

“(Y/N)? (y/n) can you hear me?”

“Sabine,” you said with a weak cough, “I’m so sorry. I wanted to tell you everything but I waited too late.”

Sabine shook her head as tears started pooling in her eyes, “No I’m sorry, I should’ve let you explain but I got defensive. But I don’t get something. Why did that knife break like that?”

“It was created from a piece of the Darksaber and can only work if I feel hate, same with some of my Force Powers.”

“But why did it break? You were obviously told to kill me and you couldn’t. Why?”

This time, tears started flowing down your cheeks as you slowly reached up with your hand and caressed her cheek while a smile appeared on your face.

“How could I kill you? Like I said, the Dark Side of the Force relies on a deep hate and there is no hate in my heart for you Sabine. Only love.”

Sabine gasped as you lost the strength to hold your arm up like that and you fell unconscious hearing Sabine cry out your name repeatedly.

You heard sounds, saw lights and felt a giant pain through your entire body as you slowly came to. Your still-blurry vision could make out what looked like an infirmary and around you were the shapes of people that sounded like Sabine and the others along with another man.

“He’s lucky to have friends like you,” the man said, “If you had arrived a few minutes later there would have been nothing I could do. His armor absorbed some of the shock, and fried its inner circuitry beyond repair, but his body experienced the majority of the trauma.”

“He’s going to be okay though right?” You heard Sabine say, clearly recognizing her voice

“Give him a few weeks and he’ll be good as new. Well, I have another patient to attend to so I’ll leave you to him; he should be waking up any minute now.”

The man, whom you assumed was the doctor, soon left the room. You felt a hand grab yours, and you looked over to see that it was Sabine’s. Slowly curling your fingers around hers, Sabine gasped and the others looked to see you waking up.

“Hey everybody.” You said as you saw all of their smiling faces came into focus

Slowly sitting up, you were greeted by everyone; especially Sabine who leaned in and gently wrapped her arms around you for a moment.

“It’s good to see you awake (y/n).” Hera said

“Where are we?” You asked

“We’re in Garel City,” Kanan said, “this little clinic is run by a friend of mine.”

“Wait, you guys helped me? After everything I did…”

“Hey, actions speak louder than words right?” Zeb added

“You nearly sacrificed yourself to save Sabine even after what happened.” Kanan said, “That kind of behavior speaks volumes about who you really are.”

“Plus you took on the same guy who taught you what you know and won,” Ezra joined in, “I’m going to guess that means you can’t exactly go back.”

“We’d be more than happy to have you come back to us (y/n), we could always use more people like you on our team.” Kanan said with an outstretched hand

It hurt a little bit to move your arm but you managed to grab and shake Kanan’s hand.

“Come on, let’s let him rest.” Hera said as everyone slowly walked out of the room until you and Sabine were alone

“Looks like I was wrong about you (y/n). You’re still the same boy that I fell in love with back at the Academy.” She said as her cheeks began to flush

“Well, these past few weeks have definitely been a wild ride. But at least one good thing came out of it.”

“What’s that?” She asked as you let go of her hand and brought it up to her cheek

“I got to fall in love with you all over again.” You said as you felt your own cheeks get warm

Sabine leaned in and you pressed your lips against hers for just a moment, and yet it seemed to last much longer. When you finally let go, Sabine got up and left the room as you settled down to rest some more.

Getting out of recovery a month later, you and the gang headed back to Lothal to resupply. One night, you were lying on the roof of the Ghost looking up at the stars.

“Hey you.” You heard to your right, looking over you saw Sabine walk over and lie down next to you

“Hey, beautiful.” You replied with a kiss to Sabine’s cheek

“You look like you’ve got something on your mind.” She said as you pulled out your lightsaber and looked it over

“I’ve spent most of my life training under my Mentor. He taught me how to use my powers, but then I think of that look you had on your face when you saw what I did to Kaleesh; I never want to see that face again.”

“I’ll admit that it surprised me to see what you can really do, but you’re not your mentor. He was more than happy to use those powers to kill and you know better. It’s still a little uncomfortable to think about it, so promise me you’ll only use them as a last resort?”

Chuckling, you scooted closer to Sabine and pulled the glass ball from before out of your pocket. The two of you watched the nebula swirl around as it glowed a warm orange and you leaned over and kissed Sabine one more time before lying back down.

“I promise.” You said as you put the globe away and turned back to Sabine, “I love you, Sabine.”

“I love you too (y/n).” She said as you both looked up at the full moon.

You may have lived on the Dark Side for years, but with Sabine at your side things started to look just a little bit brighter.
My next Male Reader Insert, featuring Sabine Wren of Star Wars Rebels.
I have written a previous Reader Insert for this character where the Reader was a Jedi which can be found here.
So naturally this story has the reader on The Dark Side of the Force

Not really a request, but more like a suggestion by :iconyoos2210: but I liked the idea and like always it was very fun to write this.

To be honest, I even surprised myself with how much I wrote for this story.  On average, My RWBY Stories were about 7250 words long spread out over 18 pages (give or
take a little).  But this story is 22 Pages long with over 9000 words. OMG How I wrote this all in a week I'm not entirely sure.

As always, comments and faves much appreciated!
