The afternoon sun hung low in the sky of the planet Ryloth as your colony’s people went about their business. Farmers were farming, builders were building and hunters could be vaguely seen off in the distance tracking game. In your hut however, a much more somber activity was taking place. You sat in your father’s bedroom, your (h/c) hair was cut short with the exception of a single lock of hair which was tied in a braid that hung over your right shoulder. You looked down at your father, who had grown weak with his old age and his wounds from the war. You kept it under wraps, mostly to protect the other colonists, but you and your father were actually Jedi. You, only being 17, were merely a Padawan and after losing your mother to Order 66 as a child you and your father fled to Ryloth. You trained in the ways of the Force in the dead of night so as not to bring unwanted Imperial attention to the colony, and as time went on you proved to be quite adept for your age. Still, time refused to stand still and your father, the last of your family, was on his deathbed before your very eyes.

“(Y/N)…” He said weakly as you leaned in closer to hear him, “I know things look grim, but I will never truly be gone from this world. The Force connects all life forms, even those that are no longer living. I have taught you everything I know of the Force, and I know that your mother would be extremely proud of your fighting skills. Rest assured you will not remain alone; your mother and I will always be with you, and I sense that a new chapter in your life will begin very soon. Until then…”

He stops to reach into his robe and retrieve his lightsaber, which he gave to you. Your mother’s saber was destroyed when she died, however when you crafted your own your father noticed how it looked almost identical to her blade.

“Keep us in your thoughts (y/n), I am very proud to have been your master and even more proud to be your father.”

With that, your father’s eyes slowly closed as his last breath left his lungs. Silence rang throughout the room as you came to terms with your father’s passing. As the sun set below the horizon, the village leader entered your house. Looking over your shoulder you slowly nodded and he helped you carry your father to the pyre, where your father was cremated in accordance with his last wishes.

A few days past and the village had fully mourned the loss of your father. Taking his role in the village as a hunter, you were out scouting potential targets. In the shade of the trees, your green and black cloak and armor blended with the shadows as you scanned the plains through the scope of your rifle. As you focused in on a herd in the distance, you could feel a presence of some kind. You weren’t sure who or what is was, but you understood the feeling itself. It was a shift in The Force, and almost on cue, a ship flew over the trees to land in the field. While you were a little aggravated that the ship had scared off your prey, you couldn’t help but slowly move forward under the cover of the tall grass to investigate.

A docking ramp soon lowered and two men stepped out of the ship. The shorter of the two had to be about 15, he had mid-length blue-black hair and his skin was slightly tanned. He wore an orange jumpsuit with a brown jacket over it and a backpack on his back. The taller of the two had brown hair that was tied off in the back with a goatee. His right arm was covered in armor and he had a blaster holstered on his right leg. At first glance, you thought they were bounty hunters and maybe the Empire had hired them, but then you felt your Force sense again. When you looked closer, you noticed that the tall one had a small thin cylinder latched onto his belt and they began talking to each other.

“Why are we here again Kanan?” the younger one asked

“I’m not entirely sure Ezra,” the older one said, “but I felt a shift in the Force a few nights ago, almost like someone was trying to tell me something. I saw an old man and his son, I think they’re in trouble.”

“There might be a village or two nearby, we could always ask there.”

“Hold on,” the older one said as he pulled out his blaster, “whoever’s out there, show yourself!”

Realizing you were caught, you slowly raised your hands above the grass and stood up.

“It’s okay, I mean you no harm.” You said as the two turned in your direction

“How much of that did you hear?”

“Enough to know you’re probably looking for me.”

“How do you know that?” The younger one asked

“Are you with the Empire?”

“Believe me, we want nothing to do with the Empire.”

Reassured that they were friendly when they lowered their weapon, you pulled out your lightsaber and at the sight of it, they looked at each other and then back to you.

“I didn’t think any more of us were out there. My name is Kanan Jarrus and this is Ezra Bridger.”

“My name is (y/n), and the old man you saw in your dream was probably my father. He passed away a few days ago.”

“What about your mother?” Ezra asked

“Order 66.” You said and Kanan looked down for a minute

“I’m sorry to hear that (y/n),” Kanan said, “I know this is sudden, but we’re trying to fight the Empire and we could use all of the help we can get. Would you like to join us?”

You thought for a second about what your father would do. He and your mother were always helping others and standing up for those who could not stand up for themselves. Looking back at your village in the distance, you knew that this was the new chapter your father mentioned before he died.

“Sign me up Kanan.” You said with an outstretched hand

Kanan shook your hand and the three of you entered the ship as it took off into the atmosphere.

“The Ghost isn’t pretty, but she’s home.” Kanan said, “come on, I’ll give you a tour of the place.”

Turning a corner, you literally bumped into someone and as they turned around you heard a very stern voice.

“Hey, watch where you’re going you little…” the figure said before he cut himself off

As he looked you over, you did the same. He towered over you, his eyes were bright green and thick purple fur covered the parts of his body not protected by his dark green body armor. His face seemed simian in nature and you soon recognized his species.

“Oh Zeb, I see you’ve met (y/n),” Kanan said coming around the corner

“(Y/N) eh? He the one you saw in your dream?” Zeb asked

“Looks like it; he’ll be joining us in our little rebellion.”

Looking back down at you, Zeb cracked a smile and reached out a hand which you shook.

“Garazeb Orrelios but my friends call me Zeb.”

“Nice to meet you, Zeb. Wow, I didn’t think any Lasat were still alive.”

Zeb’s ears perked up and looked down at you, a much more serious expression now on his face.

“My father told me about Lasan.”

“Yeah,” Zeb said with a sigh, “well it just gives me something to fight for.” You could hear the confidence in his tone as he looked out the nearby window to the stars. “Oi Kanan, bring (y/n) to the lower bay when you’re done with the tour since we came all the way out here, I want to see if he was worth it.”

Kanan nodded and took you higher up in the Ghost. Soon you reached the bridge and the captain turned around to greet you.

“Glad you’re back love, I’ve got to say it felt good to be back home even for a little while. Is this who you went to find?”

“Yep, (y/n) this is our pilot and captain of the Ghost, Hera Syndulla.”

The Twi’lek stood up and adjusted the belt on her orange jumpsuit and the flight goggles on her head. She also held out a hand for you to shake.

“Nice to meet you (y/n). Always nice to have another body in the fight.”

“Glad I can help. Hera Syndulla was it? Any relation to Cham Syndulla?”

Hera’s eyes went wide as she and Kanan looked at you.

“How do you know my father?” She asked

“Turns out that (y/n) is Force-sensitive; it’s how I found him in the first place,” Kanan said as you nodded

“My father told me about how he and Mace Windu helped free Ryloth during the Clone Wars. We lived in a village not too far from one of his more famous battle sites actually.”

Suddenly, a series of low beeps and whirs could be heard behind as a gray and orange astromech droid rolled into the cockpit.

“Well, now’s as good a time as any. (Y/N) this is Chopper, Chopper meet (y/n).”

More buzzes and clicks came from Chopper.

“Well, what a warm welcome.” You responded

Chopper beeped and buzzed again, this time sounding more surprised

“Our village back on Ryloth was pretty low-tech, a lot of our droids spoke Binary so you could say I’m fairly fluent.”

Kanan and Hera chuckled as Hera turned back to piloting the ship.

“Come on (y/n), I’ll show you where your bunk is.”

Heading out of the cockpit and turning through a few corridors, you and Kanan entered what appeared to be your bunk room. It was a fairly small yet spacious room with a table and two chairs on the left side, and two bunks stood on the right. What caught your eye almost immediately was the amount of color in the room. It looked like a nebula had burst in the bunk with bright oranges and yellow splattered across the walls with various designs and artwork.

“Sorry about the mess, Sabine’s a bit of a creative spirit,” Kanan said

“Sabine?”

“That’s my name, don’t wear it out.”

From behind Kanan, a girl wearing Mandalorian battle gear stepped into the room. A pair of blaster pistols were holstered to each of her thighs and her gloves and boots were spattered with blue and orange paint. Her armor was mainly a magenta color but there were different designs on the pieces. Her helmet was the same color and when she took it off you could see that she had brown eyes and her hair was blue with orange highlights, explaining the spatters on her gloves.

“So you’re the new guy huh?” She said

You nodded “The…art is a nice touch. Empire always was a bit too boring.”

Sabine said something in a different language, which like with Chopper you understood.

“Didn’t think I’d hear Huttese ever again.” You said

“First Binary now Huttese?” Kanan asked, “Do you know anything else?”

“Twi’Leki. Living on Ryloth for most of your life you tend to pick it up.”

“Nice. Goes with my Rodese and Mando’a.” Sabine said, “Maybe we could teach other sometime.”

“Sure,” You said.

“Oi Kanan!” You heard Zeb say over the intercom, “You done with that tour yet? I want to see what our new friend can do.”

“We’re on our way, Zeb.” Kanan responded, “Let’s get going you two.”

You and Sabine nodded and headed down to one of the cargo bays with Kanan.

When you got into the bay shortly after, you saw that Zeb had set up a little training course in the bay.

“All right (y/n), what have you got for us first?” Zeb asked as you pulled out your lightsabers

Pressing the activation plates, your own blue blade appeared followed by your father’s green blade.

“Dual lightsabers?” Kanan asked, “You only had one when we found you.”

“I only showed you mine.” You said holding up the blue saber, “The other one was my father’s.”

“Was?” Sabine asked

“He passed away a few days ago according to (y/n),” Ezra added

“Well, I trust that your father knew what he was doing with your training.” Kanan said with Zeb nodding in agreement, “What about with the Force?”

Rather than answering, you motioned at Zeb and soon he was slowly rising off the ground.

“Wha- Hey! (Y/N)! Put me down! I get it, I get it!”

Slowly bring Zeb back to the ground, Ezra and Sabine couldn’t help but chuckle at the sight of their friend flying for a few seconds much to Zeb’s aggravation.

“Any more surprises?” He asked as you sheathed your sabers and pulled out your blaster.

“Just this,” you said as Sabine and Zeb looked it over

“DC-15A integrated silencer and a telescopic scope; haven’t seen one of these in a while,” Sabine said

“Another gift from my father from the Clone Wars. If a Jedi doesn’t want to get caught, he learns to shoot.”

“How far out can you see with that scope?” Kanan asked

“About half a klick, why?”

“Interesting; Sabine how’d you like some backup for tonight?”

“Don’t think I’ll need it, but it couldn’t hurt.” She said

“We’re almost at our destination everyone,” Hera said over the intercom, “Get ready for the drop, it should be dark when we arrive.”

“What drop?” You asked, and Kanan and Sabine explained as everyone headed out of the cargo bay.

Kanan had explained that the crew had been contracted to “acquire” some Imperial goods on Lothal and Sabine was going to create a distraction at a TIE Fighter depot so the others can pull off the job in the Ghost. You were going to provide backup for Sabine in case things got out of hand.

Later that night, you and Sabine were waiting on top of a building watching the Stormtroopers’ patrols pass by. When the opportunity rose, you and Sabine quietly moved up to the outside wall of the depot.

“Specter 5 to Ghost,” Sabine said over her com-link

“This is Ghost,” you heard Hera respond, “we are in position and awaiting your diversion.”

“Copy that, this is going to be fun.” She said as the two of you climbed on top of the wall to see the four TIE Fighters docked with numerous troopers patrolling the area.

Sabine dropped down into the depot while you turned around and jumped up to a nearby rooftop. Laying on your stomach with your rifle out, you zoomed into the depot and honed in on Sabine’s position.

“Specter 7 to Specter 5, I’m in position. Keep your com open and signal if you need me.” You said

“Copy that (y/n), now sit back and enjoy the show,” Sabine answered

Through your scope, you saw Sabine start spraying graffiti on one the fighter wings, quickly grabbing the attention of a pair of troopers. They looked at each other and prepared to shoot but Sabine dashed out of sight before they looked up again. Another second later, she knocked on another fighter’s wings which earned some blaster fire from the Imperials. The sound of their shots rang out through the night, along with Sabine’s trash talk while she dodged their blaster fire.

“You call that shooting?” She chuckled, “I think you boys need a little more time on the practice range.”

While one of the troopers gave chase, you saw another trooper reach for his com, probably to call in Sabine given the alarm that followed.

It was a sight to see, the troopers went one way and Sabine ran in the other.

“Over here bucket heads!” She called out, more shots were fired but none of them hit.

She climbed on top of one of the TIEs and yelled out again, “You guys are too predictable!”

They tried again, but she jumped off and weaved behind them again before stopping near a loading ramp.

“Always by the book. I read your book,” she taunted, “it’s a short one.”

At this point, reinforcements had arrived and began to fan out in search of Sabine. In response she returned to her work and added a “finishing touch” to her painting but as she did a trooper caught her. You prepared to take a shot but Sabine quickly swept his legs and ran off as the other soldiers arrived. Not 10 seconds later, Sabine dives out of the depot in time for the bomb she planted on her artwork to go off, destroying the TIE and covering the troopers in blue paint. With that done, you got up and headed over to Sabine.

“That was some diversion, Sabine, did the job so well we can see the explosion from here,” Hera said as the Ghost flew off into the night

“Forget the explosion,” Sabine said taking off her helmet as you arrived, “look at the color!”

Sabine smiled as she watched the pink cloud with orange embers slowly falling around it, and you couldn’t help but smile with her. She really enjoyed what she did, and it was very apparent based on what happened here tonight.

“Nice job.” You said as she put her helmet back on

“You know it,” she answered as the two of you started walking away from the depot, “come on we’re going to be late for the pickup.”

With a few citizens thanking and applauding Sabine’s work, you and she disappeared into the night.

A few days later, you and the others were taking a break to let the heat die down from the attack on the depot and to take a few minor contracts to resupply. All was quiet in your bunk as Sabine had left to get in some weapon practice and you had decided to do some maintenance on your weapons. You had finished checking your blaster and were now disassembling your lightsabers. If your father had taught you anything, it was to keep your weapons clean without fail so they would never fail on you. You had the blades fully disassembled on the table in your bunk and were going through the usual steps. While you were cleaning the emitter matrices, you heard a loud thud at your bunk’s door. Getting up and opening the door, you found Chopper on the floor in front of you.

“Chopper? You okay?” You asked as you picked the droid up from the ground

Chopper beeped and clicked in response, sounding grumpier than usual.

“Servos out of whack huh? Let me see what I can do.” You say as you wheel him into your room and open his access panel. “No, nothing there…” You mutter as you look around for the problem, “auxiliaries are fine too, so then…ah here’s the problem!” You adjusted a few loose circuits and refitted a belt to its wheels and closed up his panel. “There, how’s that?”

Chopper tried moving and was able to move around like he usually could. He thanked you in his usual fashion.

“Don’t worry about it, just remember you owe me one.” You said as he headed for the door

As you reached to open the door it opened and Sabine walked inside.

“Hey (y/n), I finally finished those smokescreen paint bombs. Wait, what’s Chopper doing in here?”

“One of his servos was acting up, found him face down out front after he ran into the door. I just fixed the problem so he should be all good.”

Chopper beeped in agreement and headed out of the room while Sabine walked inside and noticed your sabers on the table.

“Hey, there was something I wanted to ask you, Sabine.” You said, “Back at the depot, you told those troopers that you had read their book. What did you mean by that?”

Sabine sat down and sighed as you joined her at the table.

“When I was a kid, I joined the Imperial Academy on Mandalore.” Sabine began, “I was one of the first cadets to finish the language course of training. Basic, Mando’a, Huttese, Rodese, Binary, Aqualish and a little bit of Shyriiwook; I learned a lot and was happy but the worst part about it was that I thought the Empire was a good thing. I followed their path so blindly and never questioned anything, that’s why I had to join the fight against it when my parents…”

Sabine looked like she didn’t want to finish her thought, and you had a pretty good idea how this story ended.

“I’m sorry; I know how you feel believe me.” You said trying to comfort her

“Thanks,” she said, “while we’re on the subject, Ezra said that your dad passed away a few days after you joined us. What about your mother?”

Rather than directly answering her, you pulled a leather cord out from under your shirt. Your father gave you this necklace as a gift when you had built your lightsaber, a simple leather cord with a crystal pendant, the crystal was mostly translucent but it still had a blue hue to it.

“Did Kanan ever tell you about Order 66?” You asked

“He’s mentioned it a few times, so then…”

“My mother was one of the first casualties. Her lightsaber was damaged beyond repair, but my dad managed to save the crystal.” You said as you held up the crystal on your necklace

“So that crystal was from her lightsaber?” She asked as she looked down at your sabers disassembled on the table, “I didn’t think there were that many parts in these things.”

“You’d be surprised. Even lightsabers need maintenance, and sure I could put it back together by hand but I like to get some practice in while I’m at it.”

Sabine didn’t seem to understand as you closed your eyes and held your hands over the table. Using your telekinesis, you lifted the lightsaber parts and slowly reassembled the two. The crystals inserted into their socket as the power battery and field energizers glided into the grip. Once the emitter matrices fixed themselves to the top, you opened your eyes and grasped the two blades, turning them on to reveal the colored blades.

“Wow,” Sabine said as you finished

Looking at her and remembering where your conversation previously was, an idea popped into your head as you got up from your chair.

“Come on Sabine.” You said

“Where are we going?” She asked

“Our little talk got real depressing, I think we should have a little fun.”

Heading into a nearby town, the two of you wandered through the marketplace for a while until you spotted a giant poster advertising the Imperial Academy soon to be built in town. The poster was of a Stormtrooper’s helmet and noticing a patrol off in the distance, an idea came to you.

“Hey Sabine, did you ever finish those splatter mines? The ones that just fling a lot of paint everywhere?”

“Yeah, I’ve got some on me now. Why?”

“Give me a couple, I’ve got an idea to mess with some bucket heads.”

“Now you’re talking.” She said as she gave you a few of the splatter mines

You signaled Sabine to hide nearby in the event the troopers saw her and quickly hid the mines on the poster, placing them in the hose outtake valves on the helmet. You then pretended to check a few things on your wrist interface as the patrol came closer.

“Oh, perfect. Excuse me, troopers!” You said as you “noticed” the two troopers and their commander on patrol

“What is it citizen?” one of the troopers asked

“I hate to interrupt you on your patrol, but could I ask you to help me with something for just a few minutes? My little brother wants to join the Imperial Academy but he’s been really sick these past couple months and his birthday is tomorrow. I wanted to find something to cheer him up and thought that a hologram message from some troopers would be just the thing. I’ve already set up the sensors by this poster and it’ll be quick I promise.”

The troopers looked at each other and then to their commander.

“Well as long as we’re quick with it, and besides it’s always good to hear that future generations want to join our noble cause.”

The troopers positioned themselves in front of the poster with the commander in front and one of the other to on the sides. You pretended to activate the “sensors” and primed the mines to detonate, and out of the corner of your eye, you could see Sabine with the biggest smile on her face as she tried to hold in her laughter.

“Thank you again sirs, and recording in 3,2,1…”

With a press of a button, the mines popped, knocking the troopers on their faces and covering their backs in orange paint. They were dazed for a couple seconds from the force as Sabine doubled over laughing. Unfortunately, the commander came to and noticed her.

“Hey! That’s The Artist from the airfield! You little punks…”

“Thank you for your time, sir!” You mocked as you and Sabine ran off into the marketplace with the troopers in hot pursuit.

Twisting past civilians and ducking into various alleyways you and Sabine evaded the troopers with her laughing the whole time. As much fun as you two were having, you needed to give them the slip before reinforcements showed up.

“Toss me a smokescreen!” You said to Sabine as she passed you a small green ball

Turning a corner with the troopers closing in, you slammed the capsule down and a thick green cloud erupted in the troopers’ faces. While they ran headfirst into zero visibility, you and Sabine jumped up to the roof of a nearby building in time to hear the troopers crash into something. Carefully looking back down into the alleyway, you saw the three soldiers had met with a vegetable cart. Not a minute later, a man wearing green came out of another building and looked at the scene with a terrified expression.

“MY CABBAGES!” He yelled out as the troopers began to regain their bearings

Seeing the opportunity, you and Sabine slipped into the crowd and headed back for the Ghost.

About a week later, you and Sabine were heading out to cause another distraction so the rest of the crew could pull off a job. This time, however, the depot was near the capital city of Lothal so security would be even tighter. But you and Sabine had gotten pretty good at working together, developing signals and shorthand for certain situations.

“Specter 7 to Specter 5, I am in position.” You said through your com

“Copy that, this is going to be fun.” She said as she placed a signal mine before jumping into the depot and began to work her magic

Following her through the airfield, you began to notice the lack of patrols throughout the airfield.

“Not too many troopers out here tonight.”

“Maybe we caught them between shifts, more time for us to work. I’m going to scout out another area.”

“You’ll be out of my range so keep your com open.”

Sabine silently turned a corner and went out of sight. You waited in the dead silence to hear her spray paint through her com or some kind of trash talk aimed at some troopers but nothing came. A few minutes later, Sabine’s signal mine went off and splattered red paint on the wall, Sabine’s signal for extreme danger. Your heart jumped at the sight of the red paint as you got up and quickly headed for the depot.

The eerie silence continued as you looked around the depot for Sabine, whispering her name into your com hoping to get a response but getting nothing. As you turned the corner where you last saw Sabine, you saw a pair of empty docking stations and she was lying unconscious in the center of one.

“Sabine!” You yelled as you ran up to her

Taking off her helmet and putting your ear to her chest, you could still hear her heartbeat so at least she was alive. You were ready to grab her and get out of here to meet up with the Ghost but soon you felt a presence and a chill ran down your spine when laughter filled the night air.

“So the reports are true.” You heard a voice behind you say, “The Artist has a little friend.”

Out of the shadows stepped a tall man wearing dark armor with Imperial insignias on the shoulder plates. His skin was pale white with red markings on his forehead and under his eyes, which were black as night with bright yellow irises.

“Who are you?” You asked with blaster pointed at the stranger

“Oh, I have many names.” He said as he revealed a red lightsaber, “but you may call me The Inquisitor. Now I suggest you put that down boy before you hurt yourself.”

“What do you want with Sabine?”

“We’ve received intelligence that Jedi have been seen in the company of this one.” He said as he stepped closer, “While I applaud her bravery, she was no match for me and will serve as bait for the Jedi, as shall you. Such a shame too, they could have simply turned themselves in and supported our vision of peace.”

“Peace?” You spat, “Your peace is a joke.”

“That’s enough out of you, child!” He yelled as he raised his saber

Before he could swing, you dropped your blaster and Force pushed him away, the shock of the push knocking him off of his feet as you pulled your lightsaber out.

“Very impressive,” The Inquisitor chuckled as he stood up, “your skill with Force Stealth is admirable, but now you’ve merely sealed your doom.”

The two of you clashed and cleared out as quickly as you came. Pressing the attack, you moved in on the Inquisitor with everything you had in order to save not only yourself but Sabine. Despite your attacks, the Inquisitor matched your every move.

“Interesting,” he said as he met another one of your clashes, “the Temple’s records don’t contain any knowledge of (Mother’s name) having an apprentice, and she was one of the first to fall to Order 66.”

Taking a miniscule opportunity, you pushed his lightsaber down and Force pushed him back again.

“You’re right, my mother never had a Padawan,” you said as you pulled your father’s lightsaber, “but my father shared the same fighting style.”

The Inquisitor stood up once more with an eerie smile on his face. “You, my boy,” he said, “are becoming more and more fascinating by the minute.”

Soon, a second blade spawned from the Inquisitor’s lightsaber and the curved guard folded out around the hilt. The sabers then began to spin, creating a high-pitched whining sound as the blades circled around the hilt.

This time, the Inquisitor was on the offensive as you tried to deal with this new threat. You had never seen a dual-bladed lightsaber that could rotate like this, and it looked like the Inquisitor knew it as you dodged and blocked from every angle imaginable. You dodged one particular swing just in time for it to miss your head but you felt your hair getting singed as your Padawan braid was cut off before coming into another clash, this time with the Inquisitor in a much more advantageous position.

“You know boy; I don’t think I’m going to kill you after all. No, my master will wish to deal with you personally.”

Struggling against his strength, you knew you couldn’t defeat him. You needed to get yourself and Sabine away from here as fast as possible. Pressing a hidden button on your saber, the pommel opened and dispensed one of Sabine’s smokescreen bombs. When you regained your footing, you pushed out from under the Inquisitor’s blades and stomped down on the capsule, causing a bright purple cloud to burst from under your feet. You knew you had almost no time to reach Sabine and get out of here. Trying your best to hide your Force presence from the Inquisitor while picking Sabine up bridal-style and tucking her helmet in her lap, you jumped over the wall and ran off into the city as the Inquisitor stepped out of the cloud.

As the young Jedi leaped over the walls of the station, the Inquisitor picked up the braid with a smirk on his face and reached for his wrist-com.

“Attention troopers, there is a young Jedi fleeing from the station and heading north into the city with a female rebel in Mandalorian armor. My master has you under strict instructions so I suggest you follow them: shoot to wound not to kill; but remember, we only need the boy alive.”

Citizens of multiple ages and races blurred past you as you fled through the twisting streets of the city. You needed to get as much distance between you and the Imperials before orders get sent out to hunt you down. Jumping over market stalls and climbing onto a covered roof, you took this small chance to contact the others.

“Specter 7 to Ghost, repeat Specter 7 to Ghost!” you said into your comlink

“This is Ghost, what’s wrong (y/n)?” you heard Kanan say on the other side

“The airfield was a trap, Sabine’s unconscious and I’m about to have every Imperial in this city after me. I need pickup now!”

“Understood, head to the backup LZ. We’ll be there in 10 minutes.”

Dashing for the outskirts of the city, you jumped from rooftop to rooftop as you saw Stormtroopers preparing to give chase across the roofs and on the ground. While running across a particularly long rooftop, you heard Sabine start moving in your arms.

“Wh-Wha...?”

“Hang on Sabine, we’re almost out of here.”

“(y/n)? You...you rescued me?”

“You know I’d never leave you behind.”

You didn’t see it fully, but you thought you saw a warm smile from Sabine as she rested in your arms. Once you had gotten out of the inner city you could see the Ghost descending to pick you up as the docking ramp lowered to reveal Kanan and Zeb standing on it.

“Hurry (y/n)!” Kanan yelled out as you began to run out of roof.

Taking a final jump, time seemed to slow down for you as your feet left solid ground. Then you saw it; out of the corner of your eye you spotted a Stormtrooper on a nearby roof with a sniper rifle. From the look of his aim, he had Sabine in his sights and in your head you made a decision. Lifting your arms, you tossed Sabine to Kanan as you heard the sniper pull the trigger. The three looked on in sheer horror as the plasma bolt pierced your torso, the force of the shot pushing you away from the Ghost. You could feel reality start to slip away with the burning pain in your chest as you heard Sabine cry out your name. However, you soon felt something besides the pain from the shot. Your blurry vision could slightly make out Kanan Force-pulling you into the ship and into Zeb’s arms.

Once the docking ramp had closed Kanan, Zeb and Sabine could not move fast enough. Setting (y/n) down on one of the crates, Zeb started checking him for any other wounds while Kanan raced to the intercom.

“Hera, get us out of here! (Y/N)’s hurt bad, he needs a doctor!”

“Where do we go?!” Hera yelled back

“Get us to Garel, I have a friend who runs a clinic in Garel City.”

“Copy that.”

When Kanan had made it back to (y/n), Ezra and Chopper had joined them in the bay and saw (y/n) on the crate.

“What happened?!” Ezra exclaimed

“We’ll explain later, go get the med-kit from the cockpit. Chopper, you know where it is, so take Ezra.”

Chopper beeped in agreement and sped out of the room with Ezra tailing behind.

“Didn’t know Chopper could move that fast,” Zeb said

“(Y/N) fixed up Chopper a few days ago, told him he owed (y/n) one,” Sabine said

“Sabine, head up to the turret and man the gun, I doubt this is going to be a clean getaway.”

“I’m not leaving.” She said

“Sabine that’s an order,” Kanan replied

“Slag your orders! He saved my life and I’m not leaving him!”

Kanan looked over at Sabine and saw nothing but seriousness as she stared him down until Ezra and Chopper came back with the kit.

“Let her stay Kanan, those bucket heads ain’t coming anywhere near this ship,” Zeb said as he headed for the turret.

Kanan nodded and dug through the kit for the anesthesia mask and placed it over (y/n)’s face. His breathing began to slow as the meds took effect and Sabine grasped his hand as Kanan began to do what he can.

Your eyes slowly opened to find yourself in a bed, the sounds of city life could be heard through a window and a cart sat at the foot of your bed; looking down at your body, you found your chest wrapped in bandages. You tried sitting up but a sharp pain jolted through you and with a grimace you slunk back down into bed. Soon, a medical droid stepped through the doorway and checked the contents of the cart before noticing you.

“Ah, you’re awake. That is good to see, as your injuries were quite severe.”

“I remember…” You said, “The ship, the…the shooter…” You would’ve continued but your chest began to throb painfully again.

“One moment please,” the droid stated as he adjusted the bed, allowing you to sit up. “Those raiders must’ve caught you by surprise. If it weren’t for your armor, you might not have survived taking a shot that close to your heart.”

“Right, the raiders…” you said playing along with the story that Kanan must’ve told the droid. “By the way, how long was I out?”

“You have been under my care for the past three days now.”

“Three days?! What…What about the others?”

“Ah, your friends are currently outside helping in the marketplace. Shall I tell them you have regained consciousness?”

“Yes please.”

“Very well. Please limit your movement until I return.”

When the droid left the room you thought back that night; the “diversion” was very hazy in your mind but you clearly remembered the escape and how you saved Sabine from that sniper shot. Another second later, that very same person came through the door.

“(Y/N)? You’re okay!” Sabine said as she ran over and wrapped her arms around you, and despite the pain that followed you still reciprocated the hug. “I was so worried!”

“The galaxy needs your creativity; I couldn’t let the Imperials take that away.”

“Thank you.” She said as she kissed your cheek to your surprise, you looked away as you felt your cheeks get warm.

“Where are the others?” you asked as Sabine finally let you go

“They’re checking with the doc to see how much longer you need to stay here and don’t worry, Kanan has your lightsabers stowed away. By the way, I was wondering if you could teach me some Twi’Leki. From what the droid said, you could be here for a while so at least you’d have something to do.”

“Sure, any phrase in particular you want to start with?”

“Um…how about ‘I love you’?” Sabine said as she looked down and a blush began to form on her cheeks

During the silence that followed, you thought back to your adventures with Sabine. The way you enjoyed messing with the Imperials with her, how she would always challenge you to shooting contests and how you and her both came from similar pasts, and yet because of those dark pasts the two of you found each other.

“Well,” you said taking her hand, “there are multiple ways to say that actually. But this, this way is universal.”

Slowly tilting her head towards your own, you met her soft lips in a kiss. When the two of you released each other, a pair of warm smiles grew on your faces as the others came into the room and you began to talk about what had happened.

After another month of care, you were finally released from the clinic and returned with the gang to Lothal. Hera had landed the Ghost in one of Lothal’s immensely vast plains near a few small villages to resupply; and one night after heading out for some target practice of your own, you spotted Sabine sitting on the roof of the ship staring up at the stars.

“Hey you,” you said climbing onto the roof, “what are you doing up here?”

“Oh, hey (y/n).” Sabine said as you sat down next to her, “Just thinking about stuff.”

“Credit for your thoughts?”

“I was just thinking…about us. Is it really a good idea for us to be this close?”

“Where is this coming from? What happened to the girl who likes to spray paint stolen trooper helmets or see how many times she can shoot an empty canister out of the air?”

“She’s right here,” Sabine said as you wrapped your arm over her shoulders, “but I can’t stop thinking about that night. You almost died that night to save me, what if we weren’t able to reach Garel in time? We didn’t have the meds to treat that kind of wound; there would’ve been nothing I could do. I already lost my parents to the Empire, I don’t want to lose you too.”

You didn’t want to admit it, but you had the same fears as Sabine. Messing with the Galactic Empire is a death wish in and of itself. While you were scared of losing Sabine, you also thought back to something your father told you.

“The way you’re talking,” you said, “you kind of sound like me when I was younger.”

“I do?”

You nodded and pulled out the necklace with your mother’s kyber crystal.

“It was after I had built my lightsaber; when my father told me that it looked like my mother’s blade, I just felt really sad. I remember looking out at the moons one night when my dad came to talk to me. He told me that to Jedi, life doesn’t end with death it just changes form. He liked to tell me that when my mother died she became one with the Force in body and spirit. I always liked to think that she turned into a star in the night sky always watching over me, and now my father’s with her.”

“Well your parents were Jedi.”

“That doesn’t matter. A wise old Jedi told my father that the Force resides in all life. Me, Ezra, Hera, Zeb, even you and your parents.”

Sabine looked up at you and you smiled a reassuring smile.

“Your parents are always with you Sabine, like how mine are always with me; and I want to be with you, so don’t worry about it because I’m not going anywhere.”

You leaned down and kissed her once more, and when you let go Sabine was wearing the smile that you’d grown to love as she nestled into your shoulder.

“I love you, (y/n).”

“I love you too, Sabine.”

And for the rest of the night, the two of you stared off into the stars wondering just what the future held.
Requested by :iconravuswolf:, my next Male Reader Insert, featuring Sabine Wren from Star Wars Rebels.

I've always loved Star Wars and while I'll admit I don't watch the show too intently (or any TV show for that matter) I will say that I love Sabine's character.  Something about badass Mandalorian bounty hunters is just awesome to me.

As always, comments and faves are much appreciated!
Hope you all enjoy!
